‘Work from Home’ is the trending title and is often painted as a fun times, easy going, wake up when I want and do whatever I want, whenever I want – kind of life.
As a young entrepreneur that works from home, I will tell you this for free: It requires a whole lot of discipline and commitment to achieve your goals and be productive while working from home.
In my journey as a working-from-home entrepreneur, I learned a few hacks that have come in handy. Here are my top 4:
- Get Ready To Make Sacrifices.
You are entering a space of so much freedom with no one dictating your working hours or lunch breaks and this sounds like a dream come true but it is going to be a battle with your self to build discipline. Be ready to make huge sacrifices. When you work from home you are tasked with making sure you are as productive as somebody working at an office. Therefore, you will need to develop discipline to fight the temptation to sleep all day or watch TV. Treat your home office with as much respect as you would a company office.
- Create a Routine.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act but a habit.
Creating a routine is extremely important because it helps you keep track of your day. You know when to wake up and what to do at what time. In your routine, include every little thing you need to do such as house chores, lunch breaks and even naps. That way you don’t feel like you are late for something even when what you were doing was important too.
- Dress Up.
This came in really handy. When you working from home, it seems comfy to work in your pajamas, but it also makes you feel like you should be in bed hence you keep dosing off. In your routine, make it clear that you shower and get dressed and transform your bedroom (or whatever you choose as your work space) into an office. That way your body knows it’s work time not sleep time.
- Self Care.
One major benefit of the work from home lifestyle is that you can make time for self care and personal growth. Before you get to work, take time to work on yourself with simple activities such as exercising, meditation, prayer, reading affirmations and visualization. You can also take time to practice skin care, make a healthy breakfast and enjoy it.
