What is Self-confidence? The Oxford Dictionary defines confidence as “a feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities, and judgement”. I define confidence as trusting my abilities to get the number of the attractive guy I “accidentally” bumped into. All jokes aside, a year ago I didn’t even know what the word ‘confidence’ meant. For years I have travelled down the road of body issues, insecurities and self-doubt. It was not until the end of last year that I realized I need to heal, see myself in a completely different light and invest in my own self love.
Loving myself went beyond buying myself a slice of fudge cake or feeling myself on my Instagram and snap chat stories. I had to come face to face with my flaws, then give them a big ole’ hug because it’s not about getting rid of them, it’s about not letting them define who I am as a person. The more you fall in love with who you really are, the more respect you have for yourself and therefore the more confidence you exude because you know what you want.
Boss shmoves don’t get made by people who don’t know they BO$$👑 ya dig?
It is important to surround yourself with positive vibes. A lot of people have a toxic impact on your life and the question is if you have time for that or not. Energy is a currency and I thank God everyday for the friendships I’ve invested in because my successes are my friend’s successes and vice versa. We love seeing our kings and queens thrive.
My mum is the #1 advocate for my self confidence journey. She always told me:
“Straighten your back and lift up your head while you’re talking, speak with confidence ama you expect who to take you seriously?”
And she was right. Would you take somebody seriously if they didn’t carry themselves with confidence? Momma saw a dimming star that needed to be reminded just how bright she’s capable of shining.
Now that I know these things, I’m shining so bright the haters are getting blind! So dear kings and queens, love yourself so loud you can’t hear the hate. Wear your confidence like it’s that perfect pair of skinny jeans or like you just beat your homie in a game of FIFA.
With confidence, you’re already halfway through the race because you see yourself winning.
You can build your confidence by doing things you’re good at which will lead to you trying new things because you trust in your abilities to get it done but it also takes a little humility to learn from it if you fail.
What is Self-confidence? I define it as believing in myself to do what I need to do get in order to get where I want to be. Periodt💯.
